I am laughing. Sorry. I had a love/hate relationship with my Diva cup. I used it for about 4–5 years before my partial hysterectomy put an end to my periods. For someone with a heavy flow, it was great for nights and flights and all kinds of other times. Emptying it could definitely get messy, though. Imagine removing it in an outhouse and no running water to wash up! Ugh.

I will say, I never had the difficulty you did. Mine was more the opposite-making sure it was in properly so it was comfortable and wouldn’t leak. I can imagine what you were going through. My laugh is with sympathy- and gratitude I am no longer dealing with monthly periods!
