This is a tough one. My wife had a cat with various health problems that led her to consult with some of the top feline veterinary specialists in the country. One of the things she learned was how likely most dry foods are to cause diabetes. For that reason, we only feed wet food with some occasional dry treats.
I am oversimplifying this, but as others have suggested, perhaps a combo of the better wet and dry foods might be the answer. We are just started a trial run with freeze dried raw food that can be rehydrated, but doesn't have to be. So far, one cat loves it, the other not so much. Always the way with cats....
